We checked in at Ho Chi Minh Airport and flew with Air Asia over to Jakarta, we arrived into Jakarta quite late and so it was dark when we got a taxi to the hotel we had booked. We pretty much went straight to bed after a long day.
Jakarta is the capital of Indonesia and has a population of over 10 million, the most populous city in South East Asia and 12th in the world. After deciding to walk to the train station the following morning these facts started to become very apparent - the place is giganic!! It was taking us 20 minutes just to walk one block, each side of the road had 4 lanes minimum and the buildings and sky scrapers reminded us both of America, not what either of us were expecting at all.
It turned out a train to our next destination of Semerang was going to cost 50 dollars each, it wasn't going to be worth travelling the north of Java over to Bali afterall and following lots of deliberating we decided to just book a flight to Bali. Partly because we wanted to be out of this massive metropolis and partly because Matt couldn't buy a beer - it was the end of Ramadan! It was cheaper to fly to Bali than it was for a train to the next town so decision made!
