After KL we flew to the small island of Langkawi for a bit of R and R. Sticking with our view of touring the world on a slightly nicer than backpacker accomodation idea, we checked into a 5 star resort. As it's off season it's you can stay in these places and it's cheaper than normal, but it's nice to see how the other half lives every now and again.
It was hysterical. We were driven to our room in a golf buggy and when we arrived we had a look around before they brought our bags up. It was amazing. The bedroom was larger than our living room at home, and it also had a bathroom and a changing room. Very nice. We then just really settled back and relaxed for 5 nights. It rained quite a lot during our stay, but it's the sort of tropical rain that soaks everything and then dries instantly. Not the same as the drizzle i usually associate with the UK that starts and then stays for a week.
One afternoon we went on a cooking demonstration to learn how to make some Malay dishes and this has inspired us to go on a cooking course in Vietnam. So it's back round ours when we get back, and Lenny will whip up some authentic food for you all.
To offset the cost of the room we fortunately found a place in town that did lunch and drinks for about 3 pounds all in, and so ate there a lot. It was great. Another time we ate in a place where the Chinese owner was keen on discussing the relative merits of Gareth Southgate and Alan Shearer with me, which in my mind made him a legend. As this discussion was taking place over a romantic dinner with Leanne, she wasn't too chuffed.
I also managed to catch a Liverpool game on TV, which was great. Everyone in Malaysia seems to support Man U so it was nice to see the Liverpool shirt for a change.
We're now in Penang which is a massive cultural shift once again, and we're eating in alleyways and meeting some crazy locals. More to follow soon.
Oh and it's 1st May today and we're back on 31st May!!! Can't believe it.
