Nobody has experienced the kind of dissapointment we felt when we hit Tela. It took aaaaggggggeeeeeesssss to get there, we were extremely excited as it would be our first (and perhaps only) time by the caribean sea, and we had big plans to do our PADI scuba diving course on the bay islands just off the coast here.
It wasnt just raining. It was raining harder than it did in the bible. Noah would have been screwed if it had been raining that hard when he was trying to build that ark. It was so hard you actually had to shout. We hate rain more than we hate breakfasts of rice and beans, and thats saying something. Google weather had informed us of a 60% chance of light drizzle, but after consulting a proper weather report (albeit rather too late) we found out that armaggedon was about to occur in Honduras. We stayed a night in the horrible wet town, which was also experiencing a blackout (we were only about 10 feet from this big electricity box at a main crossroads when it blew up!), then tucked our sorry tails between our legs and headed back the same way we had come :(
We learnt the day after that roads had been washed away and 90 people had to be rescued from a bus that got trapped in the rain, so i suppose it could have been worse. Only just though!
A full hardcore day on the road meant we made it as far as Tegucigalpa, the horrible horrible capital of Honduras where everybody glares, stares, shouts at you, tries to rip you off as much as possible and is generally as unfriendly as anyone can be. We did not like Honduras.
