Hello! Well today it was our last day in Hong Kong. We're both quite sad to leave as we've really had an amazing time here. There's so much to see and do and on the tight budget and timescale that we have set ourselves we feel that we have done everything we really wanted to.
This morning we got up (Matt a little tired after watching the football so early and then coming back to bed at 6am!) and left our hell hole hostel (thank god!) who kindly allowed us to leave our bags there whilst we went sightseeing (for a fee, of course!). We had some breakfast in Kowloon Park (wholemeal bread and strawberry jam/peanut butter from the supermarket, now that's doing it on a budget!) which was so peaceful. We saw quite a few old men doing Tai Chi which we have become quite accoustomed to in China and loads of really little and cute school children walking through with their teachers wearing uniform who all shouted hello and jumped up waving and smiling at us! They are so much friendlier here than they are in mainland China!
After our lovely relaxing breakfast we took the Metro to Lantau Island where the world's largest sitting Buddah is. We decided to push the boat out and payed for a cable car to take us to the Buddah. It was amazing, we could see everything from really high up and the views were just stunning, especially when the Buddah came in to view. We went up to the Buddah which is really so massive and just to randomly placed in the middle of the island surrounded by forest and wehn we actually got up to the Buddah itself it was so serene and peaceful - we really loved the experience. There were loads of people praying and just staring in awe of it - very touching. The weather was so great today as well, really really sunny and warm and it made the whole experience so much nicer - we have packed up the coats and gloves and hopefully won't be needing them for a long time!!!
After seeing the Buddah we took the cable car back to the Metro and grabbed our bags and took the bus (bargain - three pounds each) to the airport where we are now. Once we checked in we grabbed some food (trying to spend the last of our HK$) and are now waiting to board for our plane to Thailand. We have decided to spend a few days in Bangkok and try to acclimatise (it's going to be much warmer there) and then head south to enjoy to famous Thai beaches. As we are flying in to the country we will get a 30 day visa and intend on making the most of it!!
We will write again when we get to Bangkok - must go to our gate now as the flight leaves in an hour!! Lots of love Holls & Matt xxxxx
