Rainy season

We thought we would take a boat trip down the river today, however, yesterday, I started to feel a bit crappy again so we decided not to. I think the mixture of humidity and air conditioning plays havoc with my sinuses and I just sneeze constantly resulting in a thick headache. (I'll stop whinging.)

Anyway, it was just as well. It rained hard throughout the night and all day today. It subsided a little at 2pm so we headed out for something to eat.

We ate at a bit if a dingy looking café but with great food, you just don't inspect the kitchen too closely (or the fact that the rain was seeping in over the fluorescent lighting.) We've actually only seen about 4 rats and one mouse in total so far on the trip and only one of those was in a restaurant (not this one).

Anyway, I digress. The heavens then really opened and the street flooded; motorbikes, bikes and rickshaws still struggled on or gave up in some cases; again there is a video and some photos. Eventually we had to walk the short distance back to the hotel, so flip flops on (we had decided this was the best footwear to wear so as not to ruin our shoes), trousers rolled up, we waded, shin deep, down the street. We've looked at the forecast for the rest of Vietnam and it's not looking good (I suppose it is rainy season and all). So we'll hopefully head to Hoi An tomorrow, suss out the weather and if it looks like this all the way to Saigon we may change our plans and try to head for drier climes.
