Next stop Ko Samui
This morning we checked out of the hotel on Ko Tao; not much to report from there, we just took advantage of the nice weather and pottered about the town, called Sai Ree. I wanted some summer clothes as my limited wardrobe doesn't cater much for this weather but things are creeping up in price again as we hit touristy spots so I didn't bother.
We took another boat this morning the 2 hour journey to Ko Samui. We were given sea sickness tablets prior to boarding and this seemed to work; especially considering we were sat opposite a Thai family who all succeeded in personally contributing to the contents of their plastic bag.
We are staying on the west side of the island; the east side is where 'it's' all at, Chaweng beach, it's really lovely but the drawback is it's been consumed by mass tourism and in any case we just fancied somewhere a bit quieter. So, we opted for a more serene beach on which to spend a few days. The hotel is lovely and right on the beach. A treat to us as it's over and above what we're used to spending at £20 a night (for 2)! There are only a handful of people here so the beach and pool are pretty much ours. Only draw back is the staff are a little over-attentive. We're not big ones for people running around doing everything for us, although this only happens at meal times here, the rest of the time they leave you to it.
We're here until Wednesday when we'll head back to the mainland. We're working our way south in time for our flight to Brisbane from Singapore. We're really looking forward to spending Christmas with Matt's sister, although of course we'll miss our families enormously as neither of us have spent Christmas away before.
