Meet the family

We arrived in Mongolia yesterday; internet connection at the hostel here is dial up so will update properly when we get to China (after 01/10/07).

Tomorrow we're going out of the city centre for 3 days with a guide and staying with a nomadic family and seeing some of the countryside.

Met a MAD Swiss couple earlier who are 3 years into a 10 year trip CYCLING around the world!!!

A windy day today meant lots of dust. We went to Sheila's hotel for about 10:00 where we had arranged to meet Mr Bolat and his 17 year old son Erdol. He wants to go to college in the States so I think Mr Bolat was keen for him to meet Sheila again to gleen any possible info (his son spoke English). Sheila jokingly propositioned that he marry her granddaughter and her son would help with the tuition fees; I think it's a good job Mr Bolat doesn't understand much English. We said 'goodbye' to them all - we really liked Sheila she has so much enthusiasm for life.

We went in search of the office which held our onward train tickets getting very sweaty and dusty in the process. We stopped for lunch where we met the barmy Swiss couple who are cycling around the world over 10 years. They arrived in Mongolia from China and asked the way to UB (Mongolia's road infrastructure is primitive to say the least consisting largely of dirt tracks). The guard randomly pointed in a direction; it took them 3 weeks to reach the city!
