the ferry to penang from langkawi took around 3 hours in the end, and as u approach the dock u can see wot a massive city georgetown is, covered in skyscrapers and a dark cloud of pollution hanging above it u couldnt beleive this was just a small island off the coast of mainland malaysia! we checked into a guesthouse in chinatown called the new bannana it cost 35rm a night for an air con room with a double bed and it had good facilities for such a cheapo place. the area we are staying in is in the heart of georgetown there is a beach resort on penang aswell called batu ferrengi but its much dearer. by day georgetown to be fair is a right hole the shops are crap and there is nothing to do really so we got a bus to penang hill which looks over the city the views were amazing just a shame they were of georgetown, and the cablecar ride to the top was so steep and took around half an hour, once again erin was filling her pants! we also went to kek lok si temple which was around the bottom of penang hill, once again this was a bit disappointing too the temple wasnt the best and was surrounded by people trying to get money out of tourists, not very religious! the one thing that is great about penang though is the food, at night the place changes, all the streets are full of stalls selling all sorts of tastey stuff and the night market is amazing and well cheap, because malaysia isnt just one religion so the food is made up of chinese, indian, malaysian and thai its awesome and i have really packed some food away the last few days! today we got the bus to batu ferrengi beach just to check it out it was a beach and a pretty ordinary one at that. to be fair penang isnt reaaly worth a visit the food was class though and has set me up for our coach trip to kuala lumpur in the morning! cant wait
