We had a good 6 hour drive from Mallacoota to Melbourne, so we headed off early on Friday morning. We had been so good with our speed the entire way, knowing that the Aussie Traffic Cops are strict, but ended up getting caught by a camera when overtaking....we await the damage!!
We arrived into the city at about 3.30pm, and after dropping the car off, waiting to meet Irene. She picked us up in the city - in the luxury of a cab - think the taxi driver got a shock when he saw 2 disshevelled travellers with numerous bags!! We went home to Geoff and Irene's beautiful house - it was so nice to be in a house again as opposed to another hostel! We went out for dinner to a Lebanese Restaurant that night (complete with belly dancer!) and chatted for hours, catching up!! On Saturday we decided to be very lazy and spend the whole day at their place just chilling and enjoying their home!! In the evening, some ex work colleagues came over for a barbecue and we were treated to another real Aussie barbecue...complete with pavlova! It was GOOD!
On Sunday, after church, we headed into the city and went up the Eureka Building in Melbourne...the building is 87 floors and has a skydeck from where you can see all of Melbourne practically. It was good to see the MCG, the Botanical Gardens and all the stadiums from above!! Then it was to St Kilda, near the beach, where we had ice-cream and walked along the pier and saw the Sunday Markets.
Geoff & Irene's wedding present to us was dinner at the Stokehouse, in Melbourne. An amazing restaurant, where we forgot for a few hourse that we were actually backpackers!!! We had a wonderful dinner, overlooking the ocean..a great way to end a great weekend!
