Day 97:
Got up early to get some lunch to take into the zoo with us. Far too expensive to eat in there, or so we thought.
We arrived at the zoo around opening time & the car parks were filling up, despite the weather being horrible. We donned our raincoats & packed a bag, which I put under my mac, looked like I had some wierd growth on my back, like a twin or something!!
After handing over $104, we walked through the turnstyles straight to the American Alligators, they were all like statues but cool to look at. Then we carried on round to the snake house. We saw the world's deadliest snakes, the fierce snake. It didn't look much but it could take down 100 men in one bite!!
Then we passed the wombats, the aviary & into the kangaroo enclosure. We played with some roos & got some pics then petted some koalas. Far and away the cutest animal in the world bar none.
Checked out elephants, emus, tigers & more birds before going to the Crocosseum for the live animal show. They had snakes, birds & of course the croc feeding. It was awesome & they even do a tribute tape everyday for Steve Irwin. That guy is a legend, they renamed the road Steve Irwin Way & the government has even bought a National Park Reserve near Cape York & named it the Steve Irwin Reserve.
After lunch we saw some dingoes on leads which was funny, then a camel, tasmanian devils & loads more crocs. We saw a koala talk where the speaker got pissed on by the koala. Didn'y get any more entertaining than that really.
Before we left we saw a komodo dragon, which was enormous, otters & a few lizards. All in all, the Zoo is awesome & well worth the money. Know it's a brief write up but time is running low!!
After the Zoo we drove South, way South. We drove over the Story Bridge in Brisbane & decided we didn't like Brisbane enough to stay!! It was just a concrete jungle & we've seen enough of those. We stopped off near a whole bunch of theme parks & water parks in Helensvale. Thought that looked like more fun!!
Day 98: We booked tickets for Dreamworld today, Australia's best theme park. It was really good & did have some pretty scary rides. Wipeout was similar to Ramese's Revenge but better cos it turned sideways as well. Then the Claw which was 80 k/h & 12 storeys high. Was basically a rotating swing but it scared the crap out of me cos it felt like you were gonna hit the floor everytime it dropped.
Then we went to the scariest ride Ive ever been on. The Giant Drop. The name says it all, I sh*t a brick. It goes so high then holds you there looking out over the countryside & after about 10 secs (felt like a week) it just drops, freefall. I couldnt even get a scream out, which was good cos Carly would've thought a girl had taken my seat.
There were loads of other rides including a log flume & they even had a mini zoo with loads of cool stuff in. After a few more goes on the good rides we hit the road back to our camp, with one detour. Eagle Boys Pizza. Tuesday special meant that we both got a 12" pizza for less than $10. Best value ever!!
Carly was asleep by 5pm & I stayed up reading til about 10pm.
Day 99:
We went to Wet 'n' Wild today. Australia's best Water Park. We really were doing the rounds this week. The weather was overcast but it didnt matter, we'd get wet regardless & it made the park quieter.
The rides were amazing, Berg's fave was Tornado. A huge spiral thing where you get plunged out the bottom of big rubber rings. They had fast slides & tunnels & a wave pool. We had a blast.
In the afternoon we headed to Surfer's paradise but it sucked so we carried on to Byron Bay. Set up camp & it pissed down constantly all through the night. Had to put 2 covers on the tent to keep the rain out!! Damn the South, bring back the sun.
So you should have Atherton photos to look at, this blog, hervey bay, airlie beach & thats it I think.
Hope all are well. Speak soon.xx
