Woohoo, were back with another mammoth installment. Honestly, money is low so we rarely feel generous enough to check the internet!! Hope you're not missing us too much. Here goes:
Day 89:
So we arrived in Airlie Beach yesterday as you all know if you could be bothered to read all the way to the bottom of the last blog! It was raining yesterday & didnt let up this morning either. We decided to catch up on internet, laundry & Macdonalds tasting before we boarded 'Pegasus', our sailing boat & home for the next 2 days & nights.
We met at the marina & introduced ourselves to a few other passengers that were waiting around. Eventually the deck hand came to collect us & give us a briefing. His name was Gregg & he was originally from Somerset! Accent has gone though I'm pleased to say!!
So we all got on the boat, excited but miserable because of the weather. The skipper, Wozza, gave us a safety talk & a rough idea of what we'd be doing on the Whitsundays & introduced the rest of the crew.
So we set off around 4.30 & watched the sun set through the black clouds & cracked open the goon. By the time tea was served, steak baby, most people were pissed. We met some really cool people today, 2 Irish girls called Christiann & Tonya, a South African couple living in London called Gareth & Roxanne & Roberto an Italian lad who was tagging along with Gareth & Roxanne.
They were all smashed & we soon followed, the night ended up being a rowdy card game with the skip & the chef. It was hilarious, played 2 games, one called horserace & one called slaps. They both get you totally smashed.
I (Matt) was the last man to go to bed. Well chuffed with my effort as I have been used to going to bed when the sunsets!!
Day 90:
It clearly wasn't a good idea to be the last man standing the previous night because I was feeling it the next day. I felt hideous!! The motion of the boat didnt help either!
We did some whale watching this morning though which was really cool, on the way to Hill Inlet & the infamous Whitehaven Beach. I can honestly say it's as breathtaking as in the postcards. The sun wasnt even out but we didnt care, everyone had a good laugh & took some stoooopid pics on the beach. The sand on the beach is so fine, the finest in the world, it actually acts as a jewellery cleaner. The crew told us it was a teeth whitener as well but we'd heard that little blag before. Gareth still tried it & ended up chewing sand with his lunch!!
We saw a few turtles from the boat as we left the Island, then further out at sea we saw humpback whales so close we could see their mouth & eyes with detail. Was amazing. The atmosphere on the boat hit a new high, everyone was chuffed & excited about all that we'd seen today & we still had a snorkel & scuba dive to come.
We arrived at a cove on a separate Island to do our scuba dive. Unfortunately the water was very mirky & visiblity was poor. Didn't see much but it was free so we didnt care much! Did get to hold a see cucumber & Greg the deck hand was the divemaster as well, he had some fun with a clam & funny shaped corals!! I'll say no more.
We stayed at another Island for the night. on the evening Wozza threw bread over the boat & about 12 Madagascan something or others (we have pics) started munching the bread, Im talking a slice of bread in 2 secs flat. It was awesome. A dolphin & a reef shark decided to join in on the entertainment but they didnt stick around long!
Everyone was taken ashore in a speedboat to do do some fish feeding & we got to see a possom as well. That was cool but I was dying for a piss, so just wanted to get back to the boat.
When we got back onboard, the crew decided that we should play some party games. It was so much fun, divided into 2 games, most involved getting near naked & making sexual simulations with the person next to you. The tamest was the 2p in your butt crack, run to the front & then drop it in a bucket. My team won, Carly was unsuccessful as a captain!!
The 5 that we mentioned we met earlier ended up having a massive b****ing session with us about 4 girls from France & Belgium who didnt stop eating. They were an embarrassment to themselves. Some meals they would have seconds which meant the guys at the back of the queue didnt even get food.
Day 91:
The top was really blown today when I was eating brekkie, one bowl of cereal & the greedy French cow managed 3 pieces of toast & 2 bowls of cereal. They ate so much bread over the 3 days that there was none left for lunch on the last day. Comments & gestures were flying all over the boat. Gareth & Roxanne were the instigators & it was hilarious. Roberto & them were drinking from 10 in the morning!! Legends.
We had a swim in the morning, did some snorkelling just to wake up & it ended up being the best snorkel we've done, anywhere in the world. We saw a huge Maori Wrasse, about 150cm. We saw so many species of fish it was unreal. To top it all off, Greg brought the speedboat out & me & Lukas, a German lad held the rope as he sped off. He was really gunning it & twisting & turning, was the best ride ever. Theme parks will never compare. Got a bit of a sore shoulder from holding on so tight but it was awesome.
Greg was also throwing pieces of stale bread at me & carly & the Madagascan things were swarming around us. We were getting maulled by these huge fish, it was fun, I think Berg freaked out a bit!!
We spent all afternoon heading back to shore, watching the occasional whale here & there & having a laugh with the others. They kept us so well entertained & we all got on great.
When we arrived back around 2 o clock, the crew invited us to an after party next to our hostel so we were all excited about that. The hostel, even though it was free, was just a whole load of hassle & it was run like a concentration camp I swear.
We headed to the bar at 7.30 to find G & R, who had been there all day! Had some food & a few jugs of beer & had a really funny night & the cameras were flying.
Day 92:
We got up early to check out & agreed the night before that we would see off Christiann & Tonya as they left for Cairns today. We all waved them off & the rest of us went for breakfast & a goodbye sesh. Was really nice & we all just chatted about meeting up when were back home. Should be cool.
We said our goodbyes & headed to Rockhampton around 10.30. We drove all day. Spent $200 on fuel!!!! Not good but we arrived at about 6.30 & checked in to a campsite. Early night was in order after that day!
Keep watching because Fraser Island & Brisbane will be following shortly.
