Hi all,
Here we are in gorgeous Japan. We arrived at 9am Tuesday morning with a little bit of jet lag. We powered through the pain and made our way from Tokyo airport onto a bus and into shinjuku station (the busiest train station in the world). Here we met DJ Campus who kindly showed us the wonders of traveling by metro in Tokyo. We made it to the hostel by about midday and took our wee shoes off and left them in the shoe graveyard at the front door. Luckily Susan didn't have on her slippery socks so there was no chin whackin on the wooden floors.
we got our room keys and were lookin forward to catchin some zeds, but the wee Japanese chick told us we couldn't get acces to our fine suite till 3 frikin pm. Hey ho and off we go on a wee tour around Asakusa. We trecked about 2 miles in the wrong direction before our fried little brains realised we were in Jakey Japo country. 180 degree turn and we were set for the Sensoji temple (check our flix in the album). We took some fotos here and watched some locals lighting insense sticks and praying to some wee Buddha dude. Made for some light entertainment.
Took a little stroll thru the market and headed back to the hostel. This trip should have taken around half an hour, walking around 2 miles. however we managed it in around 4 hrs having walked about 10miles, jeezo think we need a compass.
Back to hostel and slept from 6pm till 6am. Laney kicked our asses out of bed and we headed for the govmnt buildings in shinjuku where we were told we would get a good view of the city. Which we most certainly did. We then went for a stroll thru the central park and met some homeless dudes, spiders and a lovely lady from Singapore whom we hope to meet when we eventually get there. All this walking on an empty stomach meant it was time for a bevy. Off it was to Dubliners for an ice cool Sapporo beer. yummy yummy. Half cut we then made way for Shibuya, which is another city within the city. This place is immense. We went to the busiest crossing in the world and sat in Starbucks watching thousands of little people crossing the road every 3 mins when the green man went on. Never cross the road in Jap land when there is no green man (even if it is 3am and there be no cars kickin about). After we had quenched our thirst we took a mosey on down to the biggest Tower Records in the world (a multi storey CD and DVD haven). we resisted temptation to spend as we knew we could get a few more beers for the same cost. Back we headed for and authentic Japanese dinner at 'Miami Gardens' where we chowed down on some fine italian quisine. Back to Hostel and off for a kip at the time we now call bedtime (8pm).
Thursday morning and again our alarm clock rang (Susans cheezey feet pongin the room out). Wakey wakey Baldrick it's time to get up and find some new adventures in Tokyo. We have never realised how much fun it can be to get up at 6am in the morning and go share a shower with some weird ass travellers. Oh shingles we are weird travellers now!!! Time to take our sweet selves off to Ueno park where the Tokyo National Museum is. We have never paid so much for education in our lives, but hey 3 quid won't burn that big a hole in our pockets and im sure the girl we are sharing a room with had some cash under her pillow!! Gypo will get that no bother!
Dived back on the metro and jumped off at Ginza. It was not long before we realised that we did not belong in this upmarket part of town. we went for a pint and realised that it was far too expensive, but we were seated already so we kept up appearances and went the full hog and got some cocktails. hey why not it must be at least mid day. Who needs food, go hard or go home!! We aint comin home so we have gotta go hard. This drink led us to make the foolish decision of going to the theatre to see some local Japo shakespeare. Another 3 bleedin quid down the toilet!! Hoping to take in some real Japanese culture we were robbed. At 3 pound a ticket we were presented with the japanese equivalent of the Krankies. B****cks!
On the go since 6am we decided it may be time to fill our tanks with sum food, keepin the cost down so we could get more beer we opted for cheese and ham toasties back at K's hoose, before heading out to Roppongi (bit like Sue's feet but better, more cheese!!!) This place is full of nightclubs, bright lights and brothels. Susan wished she had got a working VISA for Japan but i assured her she would get the same work for more money in Oz, so she was happy just to check out the sights. Didn't drink here, too sleazy, too expensive and it was well past bed time. We headed for the 8oclock metro back home.
Up early bells and packed our stuff, had our toast and banana and set off for Mt Fuji by bus from Shinjuku.
Next blog will be much shorter so don't get too excited!!
