So we get the ferry (second class) It makes for an interesting ride we are the only westerners aboard and we discover we are not in the same cabin. Still we make a few friends and get along ok. After an interesting 24hrs or so we arrive in Kumai, Kalimatan. The friends came in handy getting a taxi too. We have to work fast, about a week to get a boat into the jungle meet this guyand whoever else?! and get flights or whatever back to bali for flight out. Somhow we sort it and so our amazing tour begins three days in another world.
Our team Rusty the guide, Suma capt and Mushroom the cook. When we set off it is raining but soon clears up. We travel up Kumai river into Tanjung Puting. So I guess you think ,well we might see 1 or 2 things but we have seen it all. Orangutans a plenty (some a bit to close!) mecaks, boars, birds, monkeys a croc and a gibbon. So we witness all this whilst being paddled along in our Klotoc boat relaxing on our own deck. Not to mention the amazing food so much we cant eat it! I cant describe the feeling with monkeys swinging over head set in a beautiful jungle sunset. We have dinner by candle light onder the stars and fall asleep with the fireflys and sound of the jungle. It was an amazing few days and worth all the hassle. I almost forgot to mention the river shower and our capt cating fish in his homemade trap.
Back to bali now (the guy even organised our flights thank god) and starts with possibly the bumpiest scarriest bus ride ever thro kalimatan. Still I live to tell another tale!!
