Mary & Andy's Travels
Shanghai is a city of contrasts. The centre, where Ros and Pete live, is very clean and modern, full of very high skyscrapers but with a few older buildings mixed in.
Today we visited Jing'an temple, built of Burmese teak with silver and marble Buddhas. Some sort of celebration was just starting, and gold leaf covered elephants were everywhere, including being winched onto the roofs by crane. A large part of the temple was covered in scaffolding with woven bamboo walkways and multicoloured bunting to cordon off the area.
After lunch in a restaurant near Pete's office we went to a market where we were accosted by every stall holder offering 'handa baags' 'eyeglasses prescription' in fact just about everything except food.
