Martine's Trip
I have just arrived in Sydney this morning, and I can't believe that the first leg of my trip in Hong Kong is already over! I was very impressed with Hong Kong though, and can see why a lot of people
love it there.
I feel a bit of a fraud as staying with my friend and her family in Sai Kung on the east coast of the new territories in Hong Kong, and who very much live the expat life including swimming pools
and sports cars - is a long way from the normal backpacker/hostelling experience - but I did make sure to do some of the touristy bits:
* the peak tram - a practically vertical tram ride to a very high point on Hong Kong Island known as the Peak- with great views for taking photos - unfortunately both times I went to the peak it was
too misty and hazy to get decent photos of the harbour. The look out point was also over a very sheer overhang - and I tried to get as close as my knocking knees would allow to try and take a decent
photo - if there had been less people I might have got on all fours to get closer to the edge!
* the star ferry is by far the best way to see the harbour and it costs all of HK$2.2 to sit on the upper deck - which is about 15p!
* Stanley Market and the cool secluded beach of Chung Hom Kok both on the south side of Hong Kong Island. I do have a photo of me on the beach sporting the Reuters baseball cap ...
* I also took the old style tram to Causeway Bay (and forgot to pay when I got off - but don't tell anyone!)
* There is also a massive escalator that commuters use to get to work in the morning the only problem is that there is only one escalator, and I went up it for quite a long way, before realising I
had to come back via stairs!
* London could also learn a lot from the very efficient MTR underground system - which is air-conditioned!
Anyway, I must get back to exploring Oz now. Hope you are all well and not working too hard?!
Big hugs
