Sydney, New South Wales.
There's not really too much tell from this part of the trip. We had more time here than we had originally planned as we had to give up on the idea of going back to Queensland because of another cyclone, so we had some time to start planning and booking things for the next part of the trip in Asia. It worked out quite well really as this will save us lots of time later on. In between booking flights, trips and accommodation we went into Sydney centre and walked along the harbour bridge, you get a good view of the Opera house from there. The bridge climb was so expensive that we decided not to bother as it wasn't on our list of 'must do' things. We took the harbour ferry to Manly and had lunch on the Wharf, we also spent time at Watson bay, Coogee beach and of course the famous Bondi beach. Bearing in mind there have been a couple of shark attacks in recent weeks, we didn't venture too far into the sea! We also had a little time at Peter and Amanda Grabham's and family.
Canberra, Australian Capital Territory.
In Canberra we spent a lot of time running from one embassy to the next as we needed to apply for five visas. Luckily we found out that for Vietnam and Cambodia we could apply online for e-visas so that saved us a bit of time. We got the other visas for Laos, China and Mongolia all within a week too which was quite good although we did have to pay a couple of fast track fees. Canberra is quite a small purpose built city, built as Melbourne and Sydney couldn't agree which should be the capital. Between the embassy visits we managed to spend a little time looking around and visiting the War Memorial and Parliament House.
In all our time in Australia we managed to clock up 14480 kilometres on land, that's approximately 9000 miles, and as we were there 90 days that means we travelled an average of 100 miles a day. We also took 5 domestic flights ranging in length from 1 to 5 hours. It's a huge country and we've only seen a small part of it! We feel that although we have really enjoyed New Zealand and Australia that the blog has been a little less exciting to read than when we were in South America! So thanks for bearing with us, and we look forward to sharing our adventures in Asia with you next.
