we met our group in the hotel lobby. Kerry, Laurence (Laurie) & Michael from Brisbane, Aus, & Hem from London. Our Cambodian guide is Sareth. after our orientation we dined at the hotel restaurant as it was raining and as well because the area Sareth wanted to take us was flooded. Megan &I tried our hand again ordering green curry shrimp, beef stir fry and rice which actually came as ordered. the curry was not as not as the night before, then I noticed the red pepper floating in the curry and realized I must have eaten the pepper the night before when I burned my throat. we ate outside on the roof top terrace which was dimly lit...oh well.
Tuesday night we hit the sack early as we were heading for cambodia at 7:30am. I was sleeping pretty good until our loud month Aussie neighbors said goodnight to their cohorts just outside our door then proceed to carry on a conversation in their room which we could hear. I did not sleep well after that; did not want to sleep in either so I kept checking the clock every hour until 6:00am when it was time to get up. Megan and I tired our hand again with the asian breakfast of fried rice, noodle, pork stir fry and mystery green leafy veggie something or other....it was good.
Our trip to the boarder was uneventful; 4 hours a cramped oversized uncomfortable van was enough. We stopped along the way to complete our cambodia visa applications and enjoy a wonderfully tasty latte. we also stopped at the Kingdom of Cambodia consulate for our visa's. At the boarder we disembarked, watched our luggage being loaded onto a cart made with wooden slates and small tree trunks, bamboo bottom and two tiny wheels - it looked like it came from the farm museum. A scrawny Cambodia male hauled it away with confidence we would see it again, have trust. We walked through the Thail boarder then to the Cambodian. A few of us were sweating but it was due to the heat and the humidity. We passed over the Friendship bridge which did not smell nor look that friendly, I would guess neither country lays claim to maintaining this small piece of land. Through Cambodian immigrations and there is a casino and large hotel, I never would have thought. A short shuttle to our real air conditioned bus with lots of space and a few more hours to our hotel in Siem Reap (which translates to Thai's defeated). We stopped for lunch, I had the not so spicey "Spicy fried rice" and a coke for 150 bht or roughly $4 cdn.
The road to Siem Reap was lined with flooded rice fields. House on stilts sit like island only passable by boat or by foot and rubber boots. Hundreds of cows were teathered to the side of the road, some wandered down the embackment and were up to their bellys in the water. Farmers out in the field were waiste high in water.
Our hotel is plesant; the staff are friendly. They even have a pool which in normal circumstances would be very inviting but no, we all had to sit on the veranda with our wi-fi.
This night we had a wonderful dinner in the night market - Cambodian traditional dance, great Amok sample dish and a pitcher of "Around the world". To complete the night we fed the fish at the fish massage, now are feet are cleaner and smoother although it was somewhat tickly/orgasmic then transitioned to a little tickly sensation. When in Rome.....
