6.45am update, just met an Israeli soldier on his way back from climbing MtOlympus. It's going to be fun! If he can do the whole thing in a day then surely I can do 3/4 in a day.... Gulp!
3 hours later.....
Sitting on the pier sketching in the sun, haven't done this since higher Art! (Prosser will be proud) I must confess I feel my pen work is in a state of regression, the finished piece may have looked better in crayon.
Just had a chat a Greek local in the fish market, he shared some Thessaloniki survival tips with me.-
1) "become a coffee junkie. (Few on track fir that one!) We consume gallons of coffee and spend hours in cafes talking, doing business and reading newspapers Explore the city's coffee culture and our favourite drink: iced coffee-frappe."
2) The second tip"it's not an exorcism"
If u see people in the street or in the bus making the sign of the cross, don't worry, they are a sign of respect every time they pass a church.
My thoughts... Tip one explains the levels of unemployment but uncanny awareness of current affairs. Tip two... Do they realise how many churches are in this city!?
Heading of to the markets to bag some fruit for my travels on the morrow, lots if cherries and nectarines. Oh and my ant forget libation for Zeus:)
A visit to the Byzantine fort and of to Kafenai. According to my flier (see pic) time passes slowly here, read newspapers with the old me and drink beer with youngster whilst avoiding the cat who us so laid back he has passed out in the corner. Either that or this super strength Greek coffee has put him into a caffeine coma. The world just got mellow on pace but rapid In speed. (Coffee must be amazing beginning to sound like a philosophy.)
Caught up with Erik from Detroit for dinner before drinks with Mar and Yissa from Canada at the hostel. Sweet as day.
