The astute amongst you would notice that I am now in Western Australia, and for those amongst you who are less astute I was in Northern Territory before. No big deal- the only thing that was different was that we had to go through Quarantine - no not us: fruit, vegetables etc. I was thinking of smuggling a banana down my pants, but in the end I just ate it. The border was also the only place since Darwin that we could get a radio station (Country and Western - take it or leave it). Liz didn't like the one and a half hour time difference as it now goes dark at 5.30pm.
We got to Kununarra and a camp site right on the edge of the Mira National park. Probally the prettiest camp site in Australia so far and has a strange festival atmosphere. The main reason is that tents can be pitched anywhere - gosh the freedom.
The national park is termed the mini Bungle Bungles, but I like to term it the poor mans Bungle Bungles as you can get to it without a 4x4 or taking a tour. The Bungle Bungles and Mira National park share the same rock, heavily erroded sandstone that is banded with two types of colours (basically it looks pretty). The rare mug shot of me at the camp site shows the parks hills in the background.
We had a walk through the parks walk trails taking pictures of white gum and boab trees against the red rock. At sunset the hills glowed red.
