So after Livingstone we got the bus (which was pretty nice, even better than the ones at home) up to the capital of Zambia Lusaka and stayed for a night before catching a flight across to Lilongwe the capital of Malawi. We decided to fly for one hour rather than try and go overland which can take two days! We just stayed one night in Lilongwe before we travelled to Lake Malawi. The journey over the hills to the lake had some spectacular scenery, Malawi is a very beauiful country. We arrived at Cape Maclear just a small village at the Southern end of the lake our wee chalet was super and looked right out onto the lake front. We stayed here for just under a week and enjoyed ourselves loads, we watched the local kids band perform for us one night with their home made drum kit and guitar, they performed such hits as Buffalo Soldier and the world cup songs; amazing.
The kids were all really friendly and Mark enjoyed playing a bit of footie with them; well when in Africa! All of the kids loved the water it was so funny watching them just launch themselves into the waves and stay under the water for ages; there was a couple of times we thought a few had drowned! Unfortunately Jane had to do a bit of work when a kid had a sore tooth with a hole in so Jane did a bit of dentistry for him to make it better, just getting back into work mode.
We spent our evenings mainly fighting away Malaria with a couple of G&Ts.
When we left some of the kids came to say bye to us; one of them had even drawn stars up his arm like Marks tattoos! The kids really are amazing in Malawi they are so friendly and love to get their picture taken and then have a look at themselves on the screen; they even kissed the camera a few times when they saw themselves, talk about vain!
We were really glad we made the detour to Malawi as it is such a fantastic country, which although it is what everyone says it is actually true. After a very relaxing week we headed back to Lilongwe and next stop is Tanzania, our final country before we get home!
