Hola from Quito!!!! Well its been a mad couple of days in SOuth America, flights to Lima were long but good (catching up on sleep). Flying over Brazil with the rain forest below was an amazing site. Took me back to my school days, all those deltas & ox bow lakes!!
We were picked up from the airport by AL Paccino (I swear it was him) who took us to our luxurious hotel for some well earned sleep.
The traffic and the general madness on the roads is incredible....makes Han look like an advanced driver!!! Huge crossroads controlled by the Police sponsored by Inca Cola!!
After a long wonder around downtown Lima where there was alot of love and kanoodling in the air we strolled through the park we took a dip in the hotel pool which was a bit nipply!!
A massage, nice meal (scallops yumm) and an early night saw us prepare for our flight to Quito, Ecuador. We stacked up with a huge breakfast at the hotel and headed to Jorge Chavez airport for to get the next flight.
The 2 hour flight along the Andes was amazing what an awsome sight peak after peak shrouded in cloud or topped in snow. We arrived in Quito at 13:00 with nothing more than the bags on our backs, a pocket full of different currencies and a guide book.....any form of safety has disappeared.
Our Spanish is improving although we are far from chatting with the locals about the weather or who won the footie last night!!
Me & Han to take our first true steps traveling the world.
Writing this from our hostel "the secret garden" and that it is.....enjoyed a beer on the terrace with Dave ( an American here on vacation) played a few games of s*** head (card game for the un-educated) and been for a wander around the Old Town. Not sure what we are looking for yet but we`re sure it?ll turn up!!!! We plan to go up Pinchacha a volcanoe which looks over Quito tomorrow and research a trip to the Galapagos.
Going for dinner on the terrace at the Hostel now, hoping to swap stories with? a few well seasoned travelers. Catch up soon.
Mark & Han
