Mark & Den's Travels
09th - 19th March, Melbourne - Sydney
After a good crossing over Bass Strait we head off up the coast to Lake Entrance not far up coast but lovely place to camp first night, we meet up with 2 oldies Val, Colin & Pepe the spoilt little dog, they were wanting to go out for supper but were afraid of leaving poor little PEPE so we volunteered to babysit,(Well it was Colins 70th birthday)We had a BBQ but we decided he was not meaty enuff!! we saw Dolphins in the Harbour & Pelicans by the dozen all around the fishing boats Great Place!!
Off to Eden via the Buchan caves mmh got there 2mins too late for guided tour we have got so used to just turning up and getting on tours we never booked Oh well I'm sure there will be many more Caves on our route. Eden is a gorgeous little bay with white sands and blue seas, me I cant wait Im in and wet. Camp site on the beach!! here we visit Ol' Tom he was an Orca whale who used to bring in other Southern right whales to the bay then help the fisherman capture them by not allowing them to dive he would be fed the tongue which could weigh up to 40tonnes for his assistance well he kept this up for 30yrs one more they found him laying in the bay dead and the fisherman never caught another whale. This is the local story and his skeleton rest in Toms Museum,
Eden-Batemans Bay-Saying good bye to the Dolphins we head off for Batemans Bay stopping off at Narooma Bay gorgeous Bay again everyone has its own appeal here we walked the bay seeing more dolphins, There were some fisherman cleaning their catches and feeding bull rays with the scrap's Mark gets interested and has them feeding out of his hands, because there mouth is so low they actually lay on you then give an almighty suck and the feed just disappears. This is OK cause the are free in the ocean and have the choice. (see photo's) on the other side of the bay is Australia find the photo and you will see why. We move onto Murramarang National Park to camp for the evening, This is in the bush with the beach just a few yards away, Kangeroos on the beach Kuukabarra in the trees and possums so close they brush past my feet at the table scaring himself and me!! (Mmh off to the bathroom again) we took our first bush walk nothing to brave proper marked track to see another idylic bay or so it said on the leaflet, Lots of cobwebs we have our sticks treading our way carefully through the bush just waiting for something to jump out at us and eat us for supper as they do over here,, We arrive at Snake Bay (doesnt give you a lot of confidence to get stripped off for some skinny dipping, the beach was ful of blue bottles and seaweed. we remained fully clothed had some water and started our return journey!! Not too exciting!! So we jumped into the surf at our local beach I am boarding getting really experienced at this I've used it 3 times now!! Taking some good waves Mark is playing in the surf getting bolled over recovering only to do it again. Me I'm riding high!! The wave crashes throws me off the board to send me sumasaulting onto the beach like a whale with my cosy bit to low down recover and shake down didnt hurt and get in for some more, I dont remember it being so difficult when I was in Cornwall 40yrs ago how thing's change, We loved it here but headed off for Canberra We are in NO rush so we take the scenic route, We hit unsealed road for 68km Dust is flying and we havent seen another car for 2hrs when we get to a crossroads with a GIVE WAY sign, TOO WHO?? I wonder (see photo)
Canberra found a campsite near the city, it is very open with hardly any traffic busy town YES but not city traffic, We do the capital thing we visit Australia Museum, Parliment House although we couldn't get to the Grand Hall cause Queenie was having supper there tonight, Tried to find Blundells Cottage the oldest cottage in Canberra they saved this one cause the occupant wouldnt leave and now he's worth a mint!! We are to campsite for swim and chill by pool cant do too much city stuff, On our way out of Canberra we have breakfast in the Telstra Tower 892mtrs above city so got some lovely photo's, Headig off now too Kiama East Coast. We pass through an amazing thunderstorm we had to stop driving at one stage cause the wipers couldn't cope, We pass through A beautiful village in the Moss Valley called Kangeroo Valley we both said as we came through WOW that was lovely so we truned around and went back, Great decision Great Site and really friendly people and at exceptionally good rate we upgraded and had a real bed for 2nights.
Jervis Bay, I cant start by saying the same thing but it just gets better the further up we travel, This bay was ideal for snorkelling and swimming rather than surfing I was gone snorkelling out in the bay, looked up cause I heard a boat it was the Dolphin Watcher which tourist pay arm and leg for. me I lift my head and sure enough the dolphins were all around the boat (I'm sure they must feed them on the quiet so they respond to the boat) After 2days here we are again on the road to Kiama making our way slowly to Sydney, Mh Kiama wish we had stayed the extra day at Jervis Bay but I guess we can not have it right all of the time. Looking forward to meeting up with Jackie and Anita in Sydney not sure how Mark will cope with 3 hhirlies for a week I'm sure he will be fine!!
