23rd - 26th October Elstei Ger Camp.
We arrive here just after 1.5hrs after leaving Ulaanbaatar. As the minibus leaves the road and travels over rough land. This is our first viewing of snow WOW!! Got this one right for sure.. As we approach the Ger village we disturb the wild live stock horses canter up across the fields and away into the distance. The sheep just look at us and carry on their search for food..The Ger's are already prepared for us lovely and warm. Our family take us inside where we just stand in amazement these things are gorgeous. (see photo's) Circle in shape with hot stove in the middle and beds around the sides. as you enter it feels like a sauna and no draught to be felt. The facilities block is a shack just away from the Gers no heating out here. No washing facilities mmh going to be stinky by the end of this..
We are greeted by a big Mongolian Mastiff beautiful beast he lives outside and looks after us. I wouldnt want to upset him!!
First morning we are off to Round up the horses.. They are wild but schooled if that makes sense you dont mess with these guys they are only little around 12hands but hard little fellows we are told by our family we dont stroke or pet them dont approach them on their right hand side and never walk behind them. Well this is Mark's first experience of real riding and he gets along famously actually under control trotting and galloping (something else we can now do in our retirement). The scenery landscape is just amazing clear blue skies and fresh untrodden snow. What a gorgeous place this is.. (see photo's)
So our days are taking up by riding and our nights by drinking with our family. They introduce us to their local dishes of dumplings with Salt Tea mmh scrummy.!! And we play games of Bones which can be played in various ways the contents of the game is made up from 30 sheeps ankle bones. These guys dont waste anything!!
After a wonderful 5 days here, We are back on the Train and heading off to Moscow.!!
