Hello all, just to let you all know we are alive...after the notorious KO phangan full moon party! Mark was very impressed by the big knee ups, but less impressed with our 9am departure the next morning!! Nevertheless we partied and had a couple of "Good f***ing buckets". (see photos for more explanation). Ko phangan was busy as expected, and we even bumped into another English couple on the way over who we met in Chaing Mai on the trek! And the bloody Israeli's... As expected the island was packed, but we did manage to get near the bungalows Alaine stayed in 2 years ago, and revisit the beach bar Amy and Alaine stayed in! Remember Amy - run by a family from Burma...we used to chill and watch DVD's by the beach! Well the gaff has improved even more if possible, there's now a pool table etc. And they made Mark and I really welcome as we were returned customers! free pool...cool!
We made the mistake in Ko phangan to go with a travel agent in order to head down to Krabi on the west coast. From the word 'go' we were herded like cattle from minibus to ferry, from ferry to coach, from coach to public bus - not good on a hangover! The public bus was so jam-packed there was 3 people to a seat if you were lucky enough to get one. The journey lasted 4 hours longer than it should have, we arrived in Krabi a bit krabi ourselves. At last we found a trustworthy thai, and so we arrived at a lovely guesthouse in Krabi. Not much to say for Krabi town, apart from we enjoyed a very nice KFC when we arrived-curing the hangover! We did a day trip to Ao Nang and Railey Beach near to where the James Bond film "The man with the Golden Gun" was filmed - lovely beaches but shame about the rain. Saw a couple of funky little crabs too!
The plan was to go to phi-phi island next but after hearing the masses from the full moon party were also heading there, we revised the plan and have now landed in Ko Lanta. Found some more trustworthy Thai's and are now staying in the cheapest yet, probably best and largest Bungalows we've found so far!! We think we are goin to be very happy here...prob stay 4/5 nights and chill out before heading to Malaysia. No signs of any Badgers or squirrels - apparently they were wiped out in the Tsunami!? Later folks...xxx
