Coming down from the highlands into a low-lying city, we really felt a difference in the climate and scenery. The air was more tropical and very warm, and cruising in the taxi from the airport to the hostel, we saw how modern Santa Cruz was. The roads were huge with many lanes and everything seemed so westernised! So after our journey into the Salar, tired of sitting in a car the whole time, but overwhelmed by the incredible scenery, we arrived back in the hustle and bustle of La Paz once more. That night was our last night together with the whole group, so Christina had arranged for us to go to a nice restaurant and to a bar afterwards. The restaurant was a pan-asian restaurant in a really nice area of La Paz, and we had some wonderful thai curries - yet another welcome...

We arrived into Uyuni late at night and boy was it cold!! We headed straight for our hotel and after a quick shower, we all met up again for dinner in a nearby pizza restaurant. The pizza was pretty good, but the same cannot be said for Bolivian service! We don't think we've mentioned it yet, but service is just sooooooo slow, you can literally wait an hour for your food! As Potosí was only a few hours from Sucre, we hired private taxis to complete the short journey.  The views along the way were simply spectacular as we drove further and further up into the mountains, and we even passed the remains of a colonial Spanish bridge and fort over a thundering red river.  Potosi is the highest city in the world at 4070 m and was made a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1987, in recognition of its tragic history in the mining of sil...

We arrived into Sucre and were met by one of those little men holding a sign saying 'Gap Adventures'!  After collecting our luggage we headed off to the hotel in Sucre in two taxis.  When we arrived, the taxi drivers tried to get us to pay, but we were adamant that it was included in our tour price and once they realised that we weren't going to be fooled, they scarpered pretty sharpish!  The hotel in Sucre was even grander than the one in La Paz. ...
