We are really loving Jordan & we feel each passing day seems to get better than the one before!
We explored the desert of Wadi Rum in some pretty rustic looking jeeps, with our hair blowing in the wind & smiles on our faces as we raced along! Well, that was after one of the jeeps got a flat tire & ithad to turn back for another jeep. Surrounded by gorgeous colored sandstone mountains & spectacular red sands, we could not help but take numerous photos of the beautiful vast desert landscape. Lawrence of Arabia is said to have spent a fair bit of time here. Our jeep got stuck many times but that added to the fun of it! Barefoot, we climbed a sand dune which was tough going but well worth it as we enjoyed running & others rolled down the sand dune.
Got into Petra last night & without a moments hesitation, signed up for a luxurious Turkish Bath where we got the full treatment (some women got a little more than they paid for from the male masseuse)!Spent a good 1/2hr in the steam room (crammed in there with about 25 others which was crazy as there was not enough room for us all to squeeze in but somehow we managed & had fun at it). Sweated buckets while having a good conversation with others before heading off to the scrub room to get a squeeky clean with a good scrub down. Sure wish he would have done my calluses on my feet! Back again to the steam room before going in for a great massage which sounded a bit like fireworks as my body cracked & cracked with each pull but in the end it was devine as it left me feeling really relaxed. Spent much of today venturing around the ancient wonders of Petra, that the Nabataeans once controlled as a trade route for silk, spices, slaves from Damascus to Arabia. It was outstanding to walk along to get a glimpse into the past, seeing tombs, buildings, the amphitheatre & hiking up to the monastery.
Till next time...J
