Maria's 2006-7 Round the World Trip
Hi there from Kuala Lumpar!
Bit of a journey to get here, a lot of windy roads and a lot of vomiting on the bus (thankfully not me!) but we have arrived.
Gutted about last night, really can't believe how bad this World Cup has been. I don't just mean England but so many decent players have underperformed. It must be something in the water. ANyway.......
Our hotel is in the middle of China Town by all the night markets so it is rip off brands galore and seriously cheap. So last night we spent the evening shopping. I bought a bit of jewellery but obviously I am on a very strict budget and the more I buy the heavier my bag gets....
Today we went to the Batu caves, which is a Hindu temple. I climbed the 272 steps into the cave but getting a little out of breath was worth it. Very different but pretty inside and it helped that I had an audio tape to tell me what I was supposed to be looking at! There were also macaques which made me very happy.
We then went on to look at the twin towers and do a bit of shopping in one of the many centres, really that's why you go to KL. I ended up buying a pair of denim shorts that I have wanted for ages but couldn't find a pair that didn't make me look like a whale. Anyway 10GBP for a pair of diesel denim shorts - what a bargain.
KL is very western, I think it would be alright to live here...... except the food. Having a complete and utter nightmare with that. Have not managed to eat a proper meal for so long I am dreaming about vegetables! Everything has fish in it and even when you ask for no meat or fish they put it in anyway. I had to send an omelette back twice arggghhhh!
Tonight we are on a night out as we haven't really had a biggy in Asia so will probably be messy and expensive but hopefully a good laugh.
Travelling on to Melaka at 7am so can't go to bed too late.
