This is truly a strange place for a family vacation (though its always alot of fun to watch your American parents struggle through Asia), but in this humble city of Chiayi, your faithful blogger has finally reunited with his family after close to a year! Not much has changed in the Megan family, except for my father's newfound celebrity status among Taiwanese concert band aficionados. While our parents have been rubbing elbows with the Chiayi elite, my brother, sister and I have taken the city by storm. By that, I mean we've gone to the nightmarket, eaten strange foods, and polished off (more than a few) Taiwan beers.
Last night, my sister and I stumbled upon "Lala's", the city's nightclub. It was ladies night, which meant my sister got in free and had an open bar all night. I had to pay 500 Taiwan dollars. We entered the club, got a table, and the waiter served us a "burrito." It wasn't a burrito. We also made a friend from Guinea, as well as about 20 friends from Taiwan. The people here are so friendly and curious about foreigners. I doubt they see too many of us (Chiayi is a small city). Everyone took our picture, invited us to sit at their table, and at the end of the night, one girl even made sure the taxi driver knew where to take us!
Tonight, we had an AMAZING dinner with the Coast Guard Band at a local restaurant. There were literally about 12 courses! There was chicken, beef, pork, sausages, soup, vegetables, oysters, clams, squid and salmon. It was a feast!
Gotta run now! More to come...
