Hi from South Korea
We can't believe that today is our last day in Seoul, the last 4 days have gone so quickly and tomorrow we will be sat at Incheon airport waiting for our 19:45 flight to Indira Gandhi airport in Delhi.
As it was our last full day here we decided to make the most of it and started the day with a walk around the streets of Seoul, they are still on holiday so the streets were full of people enjoying themselves. We stumbled across a small park and went for a walk around to see what we could find. There was a guy hand feeding sparrows in the trees which was cool to watch as they flew back and forth from the trees. We took a walk over to see what the crowd in the park was doing, it turned out they were playing "Paduk" a traditional game where you place markers on a 19 x 19 board to try and surround your opponents markers.
We got chatting to a lovely old guy who tried to explain and then we chatted about Korea and England, the subjects included Shakespeare and George Washington!!! After about 20 minutes we said our goodbyes and went off to explore the palace.
The only way to enter Changdeokgung Palace is with a guide to get around. The palace is a Unesco world heritage site and was built before the Forbidden City in Beijing. One thing that makes this place special is the Secret Garden in the grounds which was beautiful even in the cold winter weather. The royal family of Korea lived here till 1989 when it died out due to no direct heirs being left.
Some of the trees in the grounds are 750 years old including a juniper tree which was there before the palace was built!!!
It was then back to the hostel to sort out things before we leave for Incheon airport tomorrow lunchtime, as the bus can take up to 2 hours to get to the airport which is 52km away. If we get our flight sorted, our next blog will be from Nepal otherwise you will be hearing from us in Delhi.
Lots of Love
M & M
