Hi from Nepal
Yesterday we awoke to a grey day and it was damp and drizzly so activities were on hold and we still had no view of the Annapurna range from our window. Spent the day wandering around Pokhara looking in the shops and drinking coffee with hopes that things would improve.
This morning it was much better the sun was shining and we got a fairly good view of Machhapuchhare (fish tail) mountain and some of the range before the cloud swallowed it all up by 8.30. The guy on reception tried waking us at 6am to see a clear view but we did not hear him knocking!!!!
After catching a glimpse it whetted our appetite and we decided that tomorrow we would get up at 5.30am and hope that the day would be clear. We will have to take a taxi up to Serangkot then hike the rest of the way to hopefully get a really good view of the whole Annapurna range before breakfast. We are both excited and are praying for a clear morning tomorrow.
We had mountains on the brain and took a trip to the Mountain Museum to learn about the Himalaya and the mountain tribes that live around here. We both had a chuckle when they described everyone as Mongoloid as back home it means something different. Some of the photographs were amazing and they had a lot of information on the Hillary-Tenzing conquest of Everest (Chomolungma or Sagarmatha.) It is known as Everest after the surveyor of India at that time.
After lunch we took a boat out onto the lake and rowed around for 2 hours just enjoying the views and watching the paragliders riding the thermals high above us. Right now my arms are pretty achy but I know tomorrow will be worse.
Will be in touch tomorrow after hopefully seeing the mountains up close.
Lots of Love
M & M
