Namaste
It's coming thick and fast here in India, and as I opened the shutters to our room this morning the sun burst in and lit up the whole room signalling another day.
We had a lot of ground to cover today to get to Jaisalmer near the Pakistan border and in the Thar desert. It is 320km from Bikaner but the roads are not the best here so everyhting takes time.
Phuldi was our first stop today to look at the migrating Siberian cranes that spend 6 months of the year here and there were thousands of them around by the lake it was then onto the town to see a temple that was decorated entirely with glass and was pretty cool to see, we got a guy showing us around then he led us to what he called Ali Babas cave which was full of old antiques and things from the Havelis. There were old opium boxes and pipes plus a lot of fantastic figurines and spice boxes in intricate detail.
We spent a while here but could not agree a price on anything so we ended up leaving empty handed for a change!!!!
As we still had over half way to go we stopped for lunch at a restaurant in the middle of nowhere for a fantastic kofta lunch with chapattis sat in the sun which today has been really hot probably because we were getting nearer and nearer to the desert.
The last 100km went pretty quickly and the first thing you see when arriving in Jaisalmer is the huge golden sandstone fort on the hill which is a cool sight to see it looming over the city. We checked into the hotel and it is like a palace all sandstone with intricate designs before venturing off into the city for a look around. All the streets are narrow and winding with people and cows everywhere.
Tomorrow we will look around the fort before leaving in the afternoon to take a camel ride into the desert where we stay overnight and camp out under the stars which we are looking forward to as it is also Valentines Day.
We are a bit sad we can't share our photos with you but we will work on it so keep on checking as we have some crackers!!
Will be in touch from Jodphur in a few days with more adventures to share.
Lots of Love
M & M
