We have booked a 3 hour flight down to Orlando, us being brainy booked the flight for when England were playing the US so I spent most of the time trying to listen to the commentary in Spanish!
When we landed we got our bags and then headed to meet Jodie's mum Sue and Paul. We got there but there was no sign of them, when they did arrive they told us that they had got lost on the motorway, thought they were meant to be the ones living out here?!?
Once we got to the house we opened the door to find a party going on, there was Chris and Jolene who were staying here this week and a few drunken, loud Americans. After a while of trying to put up with the loudness and the same stories being told over and over again (he has a good pension you know) me, Jodie, Chris and Jolene stocked up on beer and headed down to the pool for some night time swimming. Could get used to this.
Next day we all headed to an Airboat ride. This place was about half an hour away apparently but after the GPS sent us in every direction it could think of we got there over an hour later.
After we paid we were standing outside waiting for our boat to start going and we noticed one of the workers had a baby alligator in his hand and was showing him off to a few people. We went over to see what he was saying and he told us all about their body and let us feel him. Just then it was time for our boat ride, we spent about half an hour on the swamp looking for alligators and wildlife. We managed to see a load of Cranes and Bald Eagles but only managed to see 2 baby alligators and their mum. The captain had absolutely no fear what so ever and showed us where the mum was hiding by pretty much putting his hand in her mouth! nutter!
When the boat ride finished we arrived back at the dock to see the guy with the baby alligator still wandering around. We walked back up to him to see it again and this time he let us hold him. I was first up to hold him and as Jodie got ready to take a picture he told us that we weren't allowed to take our own and had to buy the one he took as the alligator place only survived on handouts. That was fair enough but they were charging about 20 dollars each for a small little photo and we noticed that he let people later on take their on photos, why did I have to be so eager and hold it first!
For the next few days we never really done anything apart from chill out by the pool and go for meals at Mannys. Some days were hitting 35 degrees so the pool was the only thing any of us wanted to do, even thinking about anything else was causing us to sweat!
On the 2nd Tuesday of our visit we headed to the waterpark in Disney. Sue and Paul had a few free 1 day park passes so they were nice enough and let me and Jodie have one each for the park. The park was jam packed, they had a wave pool there that every so often made a giant tidal wave. No matter how you prepared yourself for it you were still thrown quite far. I lost my shorts one time and then hit a fat guy another time and I swear he didn't budge at all, I just bounced off him!
The park also had a snorkeling area where you could snorkel with tropical fish and some kind of sharks but there was a massive queue so we didn't bother with that.
Just before we left we found some more slides. These ones were like being on a rollercoaster as they had jets that shot you up the ramp. When we first went on them the lifeguard said to us 'bottoms up', I'm not sure if Sue thought this was a reference to drinking or not but she didn't take his advice and then got a nice bruised ass cheek as a result!
Every other day we spent chilling out at the pool and watching the world cup while the thunderstorms were going crazy above us (had one pretty much everyday). We went to Mannys and Applebees for a meal every so often but it was a fully chilled out 2 and a half weeks. It felt like a holiday from travelling so we have loved it.
Were on to Atlanta tomorrow for about 6 days so we are going to spend Jodie's birthday and Independence day with a stranger we met on couch surfing, hopefully he's not a nutcase or anything!
