Well hello people
Hope all is well in your respective worlds.... which seem a million miles away from ours just now! ;-)
Anyway, Karl's tonsils are now back in tact & so the journey continues....
Tuesday saw us leave Ephesus and drive a couple of hundred kms to Pumakkale - we arrived around lunchtime, went for a walk to view the travertines but left the real exploring til weds., when we were walking barefoot thru the springs at 9am!
The travertines look totally like snow hills, but are calcified rock formations from the natural flow of the springs. The temperatures of the springs range from icy cold to boiling hot & to top it all the clever Romans decided to build an entire city at the top of it..... 24hour running hot water in Heiropalis!! ;-)
Heiropalis is not as spectacular as Ephesus, but does boost the best discovered/preserved amphi-theatre of all ancient Roman sites. it also has the remains of the temple of Apollo & of course the fabulous ancient Roman hot baths.
The baths have apparent healing powes due to the variety of & high level of minerals in the water. People come from all over the world to bathe & to 'heal' a number of illnesses. So, after spending a good hour in there, i consider myself well & truly healed! ;-)
Thursday saw us head off to the seaside! via a spectacular snow-capped mountain drive (Karl was less than impressed with the sight of more snow!!) however, when we dropped over the mountains & down into the 'cove' of Oludinez all was well.
Oludinez is a tourist haven & is in a beautiful setting on the 'Med'... the temperature was easily in the 20's & almost immediately we were into shorts & straight onto the stunning lagoon for some long overdue sunbaking..... what we didn't no was how very short-lived this was gonna be.....
about 3am this morning we were woken by no less than gales howling around the campsite. We daren't leave the tent in case it (or us) blew away, however, we had washing on the line... Giving it an hour or so we ventured out, head-torches in tow, to retrieve the washing from various parts of the campsite!!! We went back to the tent & sat out a very unnerving couple of hours (as the winds got progressively worse), waiting for daylight so we could get the hell outta there, which we did by 7am!! & so here we are in the sanctuary of Olympos.... will report back when we've checked it out.
Till then.... lots a lurve to you all & take care of yous. XXXX
