Hiya everyone
Now, where was I..... last left you in Luxor i think..... well we have been in aswan for a week taking in some more sights, sorting the ferry to Sudan & checking out life on the Nile!!!
It's an amazing place - & i will be sorry to leave - the people are amazing, friendly & helpful & the place itself is thoroughly beautiful.
On our trip form Luxor we stopped off at Edfu temple & kom Ombu temple - Karl thought Edfu 'kicked arse' over the rest, mainly coz it was covered & so had far more detail intact than the others - i still favour RamsesIII in the valley of the kings tho'.
Once in Aswan we met up with Mr.Abouda who, i have to say ,was a genuinely friendly guy who basically sorted out our entire week for us - if anyone is thinking of doing an independant trip out here, let us know & we'll give you his number - he laid on a felucca trip down the nile, had us over to his place for dinner, took us into a nubian village for the day & sorted all our paperwork/ferry tickets! Fantastic! & he had the most adorable little girl too! ;-)
Anyway, all the fotos kinda speak for themselves..... the trip to Abu simbel was interesting - we had to join a convoy at 3am and drove at breakneck speed trying to keep up with the other vehicles for 3 hours..... saw a fabulous desert sunrise though & the temples at Abu Simbel 'kicked arse' over all the others anyway especially RamsesII with the statues 20metres high!!
The felucca trip was sooo relaxing - 2hours of messing about on the river!
Philae temple is quite something, when you consider it was relocated - we took a trip to the Nubian museum this morning to check out how this was done..... amazing that they could dismantle & rebuild these magnificent structures - a shame that they had to be relocated in the 1st place but they would have got swallowed up by the nile when the great dam was built otherwise.
The Nubian village experience was awesome - they are sooo friendly & welcoming. We had a traditional lunch of rice, chicken, offal, spinach, potato stew & bread & were then invited into the house of Mr.Abouda's friend for 'chai' (tea) - The Nubian region runs from South Aswan right through to south of /Khartoum in Sudan - again many villages were relocated when the dam was built, but they have not given up their culture or way of life & still try to live as rural Nubian people.
Anyway, tomorrow we are off..... We have to leave the car on the ferry for 3 days!!! while we go on the passenger ferry for 1 day - they best look after our 4:24 disco!!
Will try & update from Sudan. That is, if Karl hasn't sold me for camels by then or the last offe,r was in exchange for chickens, i think!!!
Take care of all of you - keep safe & smiling ;-)
Lotsa luv Xx
