We again had breakfast in our room, although it was a bit cooler
outside so did not have it out on our balcony. We had arrived in Melbourne
sometime in the early hours of the morning so we could disembark as soon as we
had finished our breakfast. The port used by our ship is not too far from the
main area of the city and a handy tram was available to take us there. We had
decided that we were just going to find our own way around Melbourne and did so
all on foot.
We started with a walk past the state library and up to the
royal exhibition and Melbourne museum buildings, from there we walked down to
an area called federation square and then right along the river bank to where
the Australian tennis open is currently being held. After a quick look around
that area we headed over to walk through the botanic gardens and on to the
Shrine of remembrance, we popped in there and then continued on to Albert Park
where the F1 race is held.
It was now past lunch time, don’t worry we’d had a hot dog
at 11, so we headed to south Melbourne market to see what we could find. We
found a little tapas restaurant which satisfied our hunger and beer
requirements. Our walk then took us back up to the Yarra river and this time
along the south bank. We weren’t sure exactly how far we had walked by this
point but the feet were getting a bit sore so we jumped on the tram back to the
port and back on to the ship. We headed up to the pool deck and cooled off in
the pool, before having a wee snooze in the sun. Melbourne was lovely and dead
easy to see a lot of the highlights in the time we had. We watched the sail
away from our balcony with a drink and got some lovely views of the city as we
left.
We headed again to the martini bar to try another from the
menu before having a glass of fizz in a bar which we had not tried yet. We then
headed to the blu restaurant once more where as well as having a lovely dinner
we chatted to a couple from Florida. Jack and Barbara were our buddies over
dinner and they were fun.
Next it was to Molecular bar where we sampled some more of
the amazing cocktails, before heading up stairs to the Sky Observation bar for
a little boogie. The night was completed with a slice of pizza before bed.
