Day 90 - George Town
We forgot to lock the door last night and were woken by some random guy walking into the room, apologising and leaving ... good job I had my pj's on!
After getting our hands on a local map we head out around town to see if we can find a travel agent to book a coach to Koh Samui. We did look at the train but it gets you to Surat Thani (the place where you need to get the ferry to Samui from) just after the last boat but a lot of people have recommended just getting a coach/mini van straight there and in time for the ferry.
We're staying just off what seems to be one of the main tourist roads so there are plenty of shops offering the same trip for roughly the same price except one which offered it us for about 10MYR (about £2) less. Bargain! We told the guy we'd go to the cash point and book it on our way back.
We had a wander around some tat shops and had an idea, it was blazing sunshine here but the weather online was saying cloudy and chance of thunder storms so we figured if it said the same for Langkawi the weather would probably be the same. We stopped for some dinner and Si had the local Nasi Goreng with a 'secret recipe' which turned out to be prawns! We both braved it and tried them and actually liked them, not like the ones we'd tried before that tasted really fishy.
After dinner we skipped booking the van to Koh Samui and headed back to the hostel to check the weather for Langkawi and to see if we could find anywhere to stay.
As we thought the weather forecast was pretty much identical to here, however, we couldn't find anywhere worth staying. All the places within our budget had shocking reviews so looks like it will be straight to Koh Samui after all.
We headed out for some tea and went in a local bar where it was happy hour all day every day They had a sign on the wall as well boasting to serve the most draught beers in the entire of Malaysia .. we counted and they only had 5 so there musn't be that much competition!
After tea we headed back to the hostel (no prostitutes shouting at us tonight though) had a few drinks and began our research on where we can stay in Koh Samui and have now half decided that we should go to Koh Phangan and Koh Tao afterwards ... thats if we can find somewhere to stay of course!
