After around 7 hours in the airport at Singapore, we departed at about quarter to 12 on Tuesday night. We weren't particularly looking forward to the 12 hour flight to Helsinki but we were both excited to be coming home to see friends and family. The flight wasn't the greatest with the seats not being particularly comfortable and the choice of films was rubbish. This didnt bother Beth as she was soon fast asleep once we had been fed. To be fair I wasn't too far behind her and slept for most of the journey which was a bit of a bonus.
We landed in Helsinki at about 6.30am on Wednesday knowing that we had about 11 hours before our next flight to Heathrow. We unsuccessfully tried to change our flights to earlier flights before giving up and getting the bus into Helsinki to have a look around. It was pretty cloudy by the time we arrived at the central station so we walked to the market on the banks of the sea and copied the locals by grabbing a cup of tea at one of the many cafes. We had a quick browse around the market stalls before finding Helsinki cathedral which is really impressive. By this time the sun was well and truly out and we were both surprised at how warm it had got. After a half hour chilling in the sun, we decided to make our way back to the airport as we were both feeling a bit tired. I'm writing this now as we sit in a cafe in Helsinki airport and wait for our flight back to the UK this afternoon. It still doesn't feel as though we are on our way home rather that we are just continuing our travels with the mammoth plane journeys and long layovers. I'm sure this will all change when we see our friends and families over the next few days!!
