We took the bus from Cusco to Puno and used Puno as a base to explore the amazing Floating Islands of Lake Titicaca. We stopped off at the unique man-made reed island of Isla Flotante where the inhabitants use the reeds of the lake to build boats and homes, as well as the island itself.
We cruised on to the natural island of Isla Amantani where we stayed with a local family for one night. We were made to feel very welcome despite the language barrier and had fun eating and dancing with the family. From the island, we had magical views of Lake Titicaca (South America's largest lake and the world's highest navigable lake), especially at sunset.
On our return to Puno, Elvis (our tour leader) taught us how to create the Peruvian national drink, Pisco Sour. We enjoyed dinner out and dancing at a local Peruvian club. Elvis treated us to anniversary Pisco Sours at midnight and we continued on to have a few too many "one more for the roads"!!
The next day, hungover and after 4 hours sleep, we undertook the long bus journey to Bolivia! We celebrated our 4th wedding anniversary at the Radisson in La Paz with lovely views of the city lit up at night.
We have spent a couple of days in La Paz, the highest city in the world. We visited the canyons and pinnacles of the Valle de la Luna just outside the city and strolled around the city itself, taking in the plazas and markets.
Today Bolivia, tomorrow Ecuador!
