My parents arrived in Germany yesterday, so today I tooke them to the pedestrian zone in Wiesbaden for lunch. We at traditional german food and had the best dessert of my life! The waitress called it a pancake (appfelflannkuchen?) and it had and apple and custard filling, with ice cream and whip cream on top. If Ben and I ever get date night again we'll have to go back there just to get the dessert.
After lunch we stopped in the Market Church. The main church of Wiesbaden had burned down in 1850, so a new one was needed. There were three locations suggested. The cities parishes all wanted it to be built up on a hill in the vineyards overlooking the city, but the people wanted it in the center Schlossplatz. Carl Boos recieved the contract in 1852 and recieved much criticism over the designe. It had five towers and was needing too much brick and was being built too high. When it was finished it was the largest brick building in the region. It was damaged during WWII, but has been restored and some of the stained glass windows have been replaced.
