All packed and at the airport by 11:15am. My flight was not until 3:45pm. I therefore owe Jenny an apology. Apparently I do like to be at airports 4.5 hours before my flight too, it wasn't just a one off the last time I went to Hong Kong.
This was the first of a possible three flights to meet Poppy in Chiang Mai and I never received a flight confirmation for this one. The waiting to check in was a little long and drawn out but before I knew it I had my boarding pass in hand and my bag was making it's merry way along the conveyor belt to the belly of my 'Virgin' airplane. I was ready to leave the desk when the guy checking me in asked me to wait a while. So I waited. I was there for about 6 minutes with not a word exchanged between us.
Boarding pass: check. Bag checked in: check. Hand luggage weighed and okayed: check. So what the hell was I waiting for? At first I thought maybe I was going to get moved to 'Upper Class'. But then he started to look angry and very confused so I quickly dismissed that idea. He looked back to see my bag going around the corner and sighed. What was wrong with it?? Eventually he just looked at me and said 'That's ok, you're all done.' Huh?? What was that about? Am I going to get arrested on the other side? Will I get upgraded when I get on the plane?
So many unanswered questions but before I knew it I was settling into a cosy afternoon/evening on a Virgin flight to Hong Kong. Already equipped with my Virgin goody bag in a very comfortable seat I made the most of the films and watched four of them back to back; '127 hours' (7/10), 'Burlesque' (4/10), 'Due Date' (8/10) and 'Love and Other Drugs' (8/10).All in all a pretty good flight.
At the other end I was pleased to discover that Hong Kong airport was open 24hours so that meant I didn't have to pay any extortionate fees to leave it and stay in a hotel for the night. It also meant that for the next 11 hours I was to be sleeping on a cold marble floor using a towel as a sheet and my suitcase as a pillow. It could have been worse at least I had free wifi to keep me entertained and my new Virgin eye mask to block out the staring faces.
