Darren and Vicki's Travels
Hi all,
Hope everyone is well and enjoying the football :)
Sorry we haven't posted for a while - nothing much to talk about - as it's be raining and a few thunder storms pretty much constantly - well apart from yesterday and this morning - but it's pretty wet just now :(
Okay so yesterday we rented a car to go check out the rest of the island - Darren was looking forward to getting behind the wheels again - from driving everyday to not driving in seven weeks i was a bit apprehensive - but all was good the car was returned this moring - nothing wrong with it - thank goodness.
Right it can take just as little as two hours tour the whole island - but we managed to take a bit longer - no decent road maps so yip we got lost a couple of times and couldn't find the snake temple!!!!
We did however visit Kek Lok Si Temple and it was an intresting drive getting there along a narrow - almost as narrow as a foot path at times - road. We initally went up this road - but decided further up the road that we had obviously taken a wrong turn some where so we decided to go back - this little chinese man walking up the road assured us that it was okay - so back up we went (1st gear most of the way -whatever that means) Darren managed to try out his rally driving. Stunning views - i only closed my eyes once - honest.
So once we arrived at the top of the hill- we then get to go back down the otherside - where we reach a freshwater reservoir - which was pretty. Then further down we some across Kek Lok Si Temple. Very Pretty but very geared towards tourists - i think there was a shop on every floor - if not two - and they sold the usual tat - including glow in the dark Budda's - we went to the very top where the Bronze Statue of Avalokiteshvara (Kuan Yin) was - although this was still being finished off.
While we were driving back to Batu Ferringhi we came across a quite beach where we decided to stay for a bit - and met some of the locals - monkeys across the road.
Today we moved accomodation - we slummed it for 6 nights and we haven't had a hot shower in almost 2/3 weeks so we are in a hotel - not expensive don't worry but it seems like luxuary to me - after having to share bathrooms with others - including wildlife it's nice to have en-suite bathroom - yip it's got a bath and hot water yippee. i had been writing this by the pool side but we had to move as it started to rain so am in the lounge.
Right am going to go have a bath.
Have fun all, keep posting the messages they do mean a lot to us - although Tom i've sent you an email. Am not a happy bunny >(
love to all speak soon.
