THE MANGALORE MANSION
From kochi we travelled to mangalore, a quaint little town of 400,000. Mangalore is actually quite geographically small, and it seems to be far removed from the hustle and bustle of the larger metro cities. It is home to some of Mark's family. We are staying at High Villa, his family house, with his aunty Nina and uncle Colin. The house is old school, made out of mud cured with lime. It's most distinguishing feature is it's garden which is tropical, hosting a variety of traditional South Indian fruits and flowers.
During the day we have explored Mangalore, however this has often not taken long. We have generally eaten like kings on this trip, and mangalore is ok exception. The cuisine is infused with coconut and ground spices such as masala. We found a pool at a local hotel so we have sought relief there in be afternoons.
Mangalore has been a great experience, the food and the smaller town vibe has been unique, and has provided some much needed rest and relaxation. Tomorrow we are catching the train (cattle class) to Goa, where the beaches are inviting and the nights are long. Wish us luck!
