On with the adventures of Lynsey.......
So as I said in my last journal entry, I had set myself the challenge of becoming the 'yes women', and saying yes to life and seeing where the 'wind does blow me', seeing where fate leads me. And heres how my journey unfoiled.....
Aided with the internet, map and a borrowed lonely planet, I was the costa rica backpackers hostel in San Jose, poundering where to go next, when there is an anouncement for the shuttle to Jaco for Lizzy. So I took that as a sign, so set my sights on seeing what Playa Jaco has to offer.
So the next day I pack up enough clothes to last me 12 days, cramming it into my small day pack (storing the beast at the hostel as the thought of lugging the almighty ruck sack on my little adventure was less than appealing), and set off for Playa Jaco on public bus. Get this the public transport in Costa Rica is soooo cheap, it is unreal, it cost me just 1,250 colones (under 2 pound) to travel 2 & 1/2 hours, where as it cost me 1,000 colones (1.50 pounds) to get a taxi to the bus stop, just 10 mins car journey-go figure. The only thing about travelling around Costa Rica is that even though the public transport is sooo cheap, it is usually inaccessable owing to the condition of the roads as you need a 4 by 4 to access the roads as they are narrow, winding, dirt tracks, full of pot-holes. Luckily there was a direct road to Jaco so I took advantage of it and hopped on the bus and travelled for 2 & 1/2 hours for under the cost of a pint back at home-bargain!
Jaco turned out to be a small surfer town on the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica, South West of San Jose. Owing to the 'narly' waves, Jaco is full of surfers, which has its advantages as they strut around half naked all day so I wasnt complaining. Along with the surfer 'dudes', this place is full of fat american men all on 'fishing' trips, well thats what they tell their wives. In actuality they spend all their time and money in the beatles bar, a bar full of hookers. I was in there in the day and I was oblivious to anything going on, could of earned myself a few dollars-ewww!!
Jaco is very touristy and is full of souveigner shops, restuarants and tour companies offering a variety of different day excertions. As im fast running out of money my intention is to lay low and relax and spend minimal money. So I spent the day wandering around spending what little money I have on jewellery that I dont need and relaxing on the beach and swimming in the ocean. Ive made it my new thing to make sure I take full advantage of the great scenery and ensure that I am on the beach with my book, beer and sandals to watch the sun set as they are so breath taking.
Im only spending 2 nights here as ive been advised that 2 hours down the coast is the famous beaches of Manuel Antonio. So being true to my mission, I said 'yes' and am now heading South to Quepos, the town just outside Manuel Antonio (as Manuel Antonio is very expensive). Lets see what it has to offer.....
