So here I am in Belize. Cant believe how much Ive seen and done in the last few days. Its been non stop, and the early mornings are killing me and are taking their tollon my as im usually in bed by 9.30 pm at the latest-how lame is that!!
Anyway, arrived at San Ignacio after a long journey aswell as a tiring day hiking around the 2 1/2 square kilometres Mayan ruin site of Tikal, so spend the first night stuffing my face with great cheap food and sipping well deserved cockails and beers by the hotels pool.
The next day we went caving in the famous Achtun Muknal Stone Shepulchre caves hosting the famous ceremonial site of Mayan ancient sacrificial practices.
We were told to wear clothing that we didnt mind getting wet and dirty and they werent lying. After hiking through dense rain forest for 45 minuts, and crossing hip height rivers,we arrioved at teh cave. We were wet before we even got to the caves as it had turrential rained, thus we were soaked to the bone but strangely it was refreshing as the temperature and humity was so hot that when it rained the water was warm and acted like a warm shower, so it was strangely refreshing, way cant the rain in Wales be like that.
We got to the caves and had to swim and wade through water through the caves and climb and crawl over amazing rock formations to get t the ceremonial site where Mayan used to sacrific innocent victims in the name of religion, offering the blood of these victims to the gods. It was erry as the skeleton remains and the pottery that was used to contain the blood of the sacrifices still remained there and set deep into the caves the atmosphere was very erry. But all in all a good day and a must do.
So after a long, tiring day we spent another night gorging on great food and filling our belly with beer-what else could I ask for....
