The festival beckons for Jordan. As it doesn't start until 4 we had a slow start to the day. Breakfast at the hotel. We caught up on washing as they have laundry facilities here. We also booked a snorkelling trip at john penne amp for Tuesday. We decided to take the slower road into miami rather than the turnpike. This was not that interesting miles of malls and usual shops including the Walgreens which are on every corner. This sells pharmacy items and gifts, food etc. their moto is "on the corner of healthy and happy" ......
The traffic becomes busy as we approached miami, we saw the metro rail high above us. We had pre booked reserved parking not too far away from by front park where Jordan's festival is held. The traffic was hell as we approached the location of the festival and our parking. We could not find the parking area and were lucky enough to be able to circle around on one way streets. One thing about driving in America I have not had one roundabout... All traffic lights ... I am good at those now.
We realised that the parking lot was not signed and with great relief parked up. The time was 3pm.
Then temperature was 87degrees outside and the heat hit you As you stepped outside.
The city is a much smaller version of New York and our car park was next to the tallest skyscraper in miami. All shiny and blue.
We walked to the bay front area and were hit with a cacophony of noise. The festival area was fenced off and screened and you could see the tops of the stages which pulsed with this beat. It was LOUD loud loud. 35,000 people are expected to attend and it was a sell out. Ticket touts were selling tickets and people were asking for tickets. The age group was teens, 20,s 30,s. The girls were dressed in the scimpiest costumes ever. Tight small shorts and hardly any tops. One girl had two taped crosses on her breasts and nothing else on top. Others were dressed as Mardi gras,. Furry boots appeared everywhere and nets on legs. It was insane.
Police and police cars were everywhere as the street was closed off around the area. Drivers were honking horns.. Insane
We managed to get to the place where we picked up the tickets and Jordan joined the queue to get on a VERY happy bunny!!!!!!
We were now free until midnight"...........what to do. We headed for the bayfront area which had a huge shopping mall and market stalls. This housed food, designer shops and cheap souvenirs. At the front was a huge marina with the largest cruiser boats I have seen. We were in a daze. Found a smoothie place and settled for a fruit ice cold smoothie. Great after the long drive. Once we had done the bayside we decided to try and find other shops. Downtown miami was billed as having vibrant shops. We walked down in the area these shops should have been and found lots of Hispanic type shops which looked quite seedy. The further we walked the seedier it got. We stopped at a small mall which advertised internet access. There was a coffee kiosk so we asked for coffee. The girl did not understand us. We got very Cuban coffee, very strong. After coffee we walked through the mall where there was a bead shop..yes there was. It sold lots of strings and I would have bought loads if still doing jewellery. We went back to bayside and had something treat. Chinese. We the decided we were so tired we would go back to the car. Having three hours to kill. Sat in a car in a heat of over 80 and eventually had to leave the car. Found a subway and had a lovely cold drink. A last 12pm and Jordan arrived at the meeting point. He loved the music and the whole festival. We walked back to the car and then martin directed me out of miami on the toll turnpike road. 5 lanes, huge flyovers, road works, fast cars......but we made it back to the hotel in one piece and all very tired. A funny old day.
