Napiers Travel Around The World in 50 Days
Well this is our last day in India - thank god! While we were in Delhi the builders moved into our hotel making lots of noise, we are having to have cold showers - no hot water, when we complain we are told Later! and to end it all we have unwanted guests camping in our loo, cockcroaches!! We booked an AC car and driver to take us to the gate of India which is the old colonial part, and it was very enjoyable glad we seen it. Our driver Raj - very original - was very good and showed us the sights. The gate of India was built to comemorate the landing of George V and Queen Mary in 1911and if course it looks very British. Surprisingly we met a few Brits there so at least we know we were not the only ones in Bombay. Raj dropped us off at Cafe Mondy, he seemed to guess that would be our kind of place - full of europeans. after lunch we walked round the block checking out the many stalls, we didn't buy anything - to be honest we couldn't be bothered with the hassle. We also had the misfortune to meet Bombays equivilent of the Ladyboys from Bangkok. They call themselves the double sexes, we are neither man nor women they said! to us they were dirty unshaven men dressed in sarees and wearing lipstick, according to Raj they committed crimes and have been castrated - ouch! nevertheless they looked awful and I doubt whether they would get a turn at the Fringe. Raj suggested we walk over the causeway to the Hajiali Mosque, we did but felt intrusive, the route was lined with beggers, and people who had lost limbs or were deformed or blind, one young girl threatened to throw her baby in the sea unless she was given money, a lot of very unfortunate people other than the ones with no hands, they were thieves, I they dinnae mess about here. However, having being stared at most of the time, this young guy asked if his mum could have her photo taken with ME! so you see maybe they thought I was a celebrity - well come on I do have a J-Lo bum!! Early Night tonight if we can sleep for the noise of the builders - check out the photos of this dive, Gail says Travelcare thought it was part of the Four Seasons Group, because that was what it was called, not a chance. Clean sheets and towels and comfy beds but thats all. Lynne & Davey xx
