Ok its 4 in the morning and im waiting to go to the airport and fly to Costa Rica. Just got back from my final night out in Australia, and also the last night of my 6 day tour from Alice to Adelaide.
Day 1: Right so back to the beginning. I left Alice springs at 5:45am after the coldest night of my life sleeping with just a sheet. i was picked up from my hostel by erica our lovely tour guide, along with emilly who was also doing the tour, we then drove round for about an hour picking everyone else up. The first stop on our tour was Kings Canyon, which was a good 6 hours drive away but i needed to catch up on some sleep so i didnt mind. When we got there Erica showed us the mamoth hill we had to trek up and advised that anyone who didnt think they could make it should go on the smaller trek, but noone pussied out apart from one scotish girl with a bad ankel. The hike was challenging but deffinatly worth it the view was incredible! We walked around the rim of the creator and back down for some well earnt lunch. After lunch we hit the road to pick up some fire wood for our camp that evening in uluru. We slept in swags around the fire that night and despite fearing that it would be bitterly cold i was very toasty in my swag.
Day 2: The next morning we woke early so we could catch sunrise at Uluru. A lot of the group opted to do the full base walk instead of watching the sunrise but i really wanted to see it so i watched the sunrise and then joined the others for the remainder of the base walk. A few of the group went against the aboriginal people's wishes and climbed to the top of Uluru but i want to to be respectful to the Aboriginals wishes. After Uluru we went to Kata Tuja, which is the other set of big red rocks, we did the valley of the winds walk which surprisingly wasnt that windy! We then stoped off at a good view point of both uluru and kata tuja for some classic tourist shots. Then it was bck to Uluru for sunset, which was awesome definatly a lot better than sunrise. We drank champagne and had crackers and dip in the middle of the outback! We spent another night at camp Uluru and played a bit of guitar round the camp fire and slep under the stars again!
Day 3: Today we set off for south Australia and coober peady. we had to leave ridiculosly early again and it was about an 8 hour drive to get to coober peady but we had stop offs along the way for lunch and at the boarder of South Australia and the Northern Territory. When we got to Coober Peady we had an opal mine tour and got to see what a tipical coober peadian house was like, dug out of the ground. We had pizza that night and then went to an under ground bar which was awesome. I think i met one of Adam Napier's {from Hayman} friends there he was cool his mate had just struck lucky and found 30 thousand dollars worth of opal so he broght a few drinks for people. There were some very strange people in coober peady but what can u expect living under ground in the middle of nowhere!
Day 4: Today was basicaly just a driving day down to the flinders ranges we stopped off at a salt lake which looked like a glaciar in the middle of australia but apart from that it was just 8 hours of driving.
Day 5: The Flinders ranges. We hiked up the second tallest mountain in the Flinders ranges for a brilliant view of wilpena pound, it was hard work but definatly worth it in the end. The was a bit of rock scrambling on the way up which was cool. After the Flinders we stayed in possibly the smallest town in Oz with a population of 6 people. We ate some bush meat, kangaroo, emu, and watched the longest train in the sourthern hemesphire go past with a shed load of coal.
Day 6: The final day of the tour. We set off early for Adelaide stopping off at an old sheep station on the way, apparently nobody realised that there wasnt enough grass for the sheep and so the station closed down. After that we stopped at a winery and sampled some of the local wine apparently it was the oldest winery in Oz. It was then on to Adelaide for our final big night out...
So here i am sitting in my hostel sort of sobering up waiting for 6 to roll around so i can get on my plane, the night out was good we went to some very strange club not very many people but we still had fun and then Erica nearly started a fight in macdonalds with some local preety boys, thats right our tour guide nearly started a fight very responsible but we'll forgive her. Okay so i think the bus is here...
