Hello!
We're actually in Bali at the moment but I have lots to say about Singapore and Kuala Lumpur!
We stayed in Kuala Lumpur 3 nights and spent our two full days there sight seeing and shopping (there are so many shopping malls!!) We hadn't been anywhere like this for the whole of our travels so it was a (good) shock to the system! We decided to buy a hop-on-off bus ticket to see all of the main attractions which was the best idea with the humidity - first stop was the National Palace and while sat on a wall waiting for our bus we noticed a group of Indian tourists trying to take pictures of us - not very subtly!! They soon gave up with the idea and came and sat on the wall with us, only more came, and more, and more, soon we were surrounded by about 15 all taking pictures and videoing us! Very strange. I would never do that to two Indian people!! It did make us laugh though and they were very friendly!
The next day we queued from 8.30am till 10 to get free tickets to go up the Twin Towers - it was worth the queue because the view was great! The lift takes you right to the top and you have 15 minutes to take pictures and admire the view.
On Sunday we took an 8 hour train ride from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore - it felt like luxery compared to some of the busses we've been on! Olly (my friend from home who's on business in Singapore at the moment) was waiting for us at the station and kindly let us stay in his service apartment looking over Clarke Quay for the week! We were in heaven - air con! towels! duvets! fridge! drinking water from a tap! balconi! tv! dvds! swimming pool! kettle! tea! coffee! hot water! Power shower!! (and so on and so on!) We busied ourselves during the day sightseeing and shopping while he was at work and went out together in the evenings for food, it was so relaxing! After 10 weeks of constantly moving around it felt like a huge weight had been lifted just to have a safe and comfortable base for a while, it was such a relief I think we were a bit shell shocked on the first day! And Singapore is such a lovely city you can't help but feel comfortable safe and relaxed, a far cry from some of the other places we've been! During the week we went to the Singapore National Museum, Botanical Gardens, China Town, Little India, Singapore Zoo and Night Safari, Sentosa Island, Raffles Hotel for a Singapore Sling, East Coast for Chilli Crab Dinner, and on our last day Olly treated us to Buffet Brunch at the Shangri-la Hotel - one of my favourite parts of the week!! I have never been / seen / eaten anything like it!! You name it, we ate it. The pictures will set the scene! I've never been anywhere like that before and now I'm worried it's given me a taste for the high life - not much good on a back packers budget!!
For the first time in 11 weeks we decided to take a flight! So far we have travelled overland from every country into the next by bus, boat or train, but with only two weeks left, travelling overland from Singapore to Indonesia was proving tricky. We found bargain flights to Bali for 40pouds each with Air Asia so no loss there! It was so nice to get from one place to the next in a few hours rather than the average 12,13,14 or 15 that we're used to! We've been in Bali two night and have two weeks left until we set off to Oz. We're off to the Gilli Islands for a few days tomorrow where we're hoping to do our PADI Diving Courses at long last as well as some more snorkelling (I'll take an underwater camera this time!) then we'll come back to Bali as we fly from Bali to Kuala Lumpur on the 19th May and a few hours later catch our flight from Kuala Lumpur to Melbourne. Where has the time gone?!?!
I will update you with more about my Indonesia excursion in a couple of weeks!!
Lots of love, Lucy xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
