Lucy's Overseas Trip!
Hola! Que tal? (translation - Hi! How are you?)
We are now in San Cristobal, which is a very colonial style town! The rest of the group have gone on a tour to visit the surrounding Villages, but much to my disappointment I am feeling sick today so thought i had best stay at the hotel and rest! ¨Not happy Jan¨ at all!!!!
The tour we went on in Palenque was fantastic...I think Palenque has been my favourite place visited in Mexico to date!! We had a fantastic guide who took us on a jungle walk to get to the ruins! I spotted the first monkeys, so he called me Jane...Jane of the Jungle!!! We even heard some toucans, but unfortunately couldn't spot them. We came across a big vine amongst the jungle trees, so being Jane I thought I had best swing from it!!!! Was very funny!!
The ruins were great - the best part is that we could actually go inside some of them and see where an ancient Queen was put to rest and where these Mayans lived! The architecture was amazing - they were obviously very smart people!!! Also very funny looking people - they used to mould the heads of their babies to look like Cone heads and used to chisel their teeth to a sharp point!! Very bizarre!
The hotel we stayed at in Palenque was awesome and had live music every night, so as you can imagine....I loved it!!!!! The musicians were amazing, so talented and could play multiple instruments...some at the same time!! They are also had a fire show each night....this involved a really talented drum ensemble and some very daring girls dancing with fire!!
We are no longer visiting Oaxaca as it has become quite dangerous due to ongoing protests. Our tour leader Sarah has just informed me that all the shops have closed their doors. Instead, I think we are going to be spending a few more days in Mexico City which will be nice!
When we got off the bus yesterday here, there was a protest happening in the street.....definately a big eye opener!!
Tomorrow (if i am feeling better...fingeres crossed!!) we are just going to have a look around the city and perhaps a bit of a shop!!
I hear that Reflexions is doing superbly at the Eisteddfod.....congratulations to all who have competed so far and good luck to all that are still to compete!! I'm thinking of you all!!
Best be off and perhaps have a nap!!
Miss you all heaps
Lots of love and hugs
