Hi all, well I'm still in Melbourne, but leave tomorrow morning for Tasmania, so thought I'd fill you in on what I've been upto since I stopped working...
After our last day with AGL we headed to Fiddlers, an Irish bar on Little Collins St for their happy hour, which was great... and I was really pleased to see that I could get a round of 3 pints for less than 10 bucks... woohoo! The day after we headed to our friend Kelsey's boyfriends place for a house/beach party before they went travelling. It was loads of fun and he lived right opposite kath from Kath and Kim (the tv programme)'s house... what a claim to fame, hehe!
Since then I've been to Albert Park Lake, which covers a massive area between the city and St Kilda... it took me over an hour just to walk around the lake!!! I took the free city circle tram, which as the name suggests does a circle of the city pointing out the main attractions, etc, but it wasn't really that fun as it was packed and stinky... although it did mean that I got to see one of the oldest pre-goldrush buildings in Victoria and the cow in a tree sculpture (not just a clever name!).
I also managed to find the very well hidden Webb Bridge an art deco wiggly bridge over the Yarra, visited the Immigration Museum, the giant sky wheel at Birrarung Marr (that's token big city big wheel to me and you!) and the Royal Botanic Gardens. Me and Mel also visited Vic Market one wednesday night for food, as during the summer they open on a weds night with food stalls and live music etc.
We hired a car for a couple of days last week so that we could do our very own Great Ocean Road tour. There are organised ones that you can do, but it actually worked out the same or cheaper for us to do it ourselves and also meant we go to see more and had more freedom. It was so nice to be able to drive again, although I did end up feeling like dad as I did all the driving. On the first day we headed through Geelong and made our first stop at Torquay where we did a little shopping and visited the cheesey 'Surf Museum', which was actually pretty good. The second stop was at the famous Bells Beach, where all the surfing comps are held. We stopped at Airlie Inlet to see Split Point Lighthouse... THE LIGHTHOUSE FROM ROUND THE TWIST... have you ever, ever felt like this!!! After checking out the lighthouse... which unsurprisingly looked just like a lighthouse we headed into the little cafe for our granny-fix of hot chocolate! We made our second-to-last stop at Erskine Falls in Lorne and then headed to Apollo Bay where we stayed the night.
On day 2 we went to Maits Rest Rainforest Boardwalk... which was really pretty (in a rainforest way) and we mananged the 40min walk in about 15... although I think that had a lot to do with my fear of creepy crawlies and the fact that I was marhing to the theme tune of Follyfoot Farm (grow grow the lightenng tree... etc!). Then we stopped at Loch Ard Gorge, took the walk to see the blowhole a 100m natural water-tunnel, went to see the 12 apostles and then on to Port Campell, which was really small and beautiful. We took the great ocean road home, stopping off at the salty dog in Lorne for an excellent tea!
Last Friday we went on the neighbours tour which was lots of fun, we went to erinsborough high, the studios where we met and got to chat to (emma moore look-a-like) Carmella and then we went to the street. The tour organisers always try and make sure you get to see at least one star (hence we got to chat to Carmella), but we also saw Dr Carl (woohoo!), Ringo and some new guy who's not in it yet, but will be soon. Our tour guide was really nice too and told us all sorts of secrets and future storylines and even put scott and charlenes wedding on the dvd player for me on the way back!!!
I guess the last thing I should update on here is what we did for Australia Day (26th Jan). last time I was over here for Australia day I was on the east coast and it was a crazy day of partying, but when we asked around about what to do in Melbourne, it seems that the thing to do here is listen to the top 100 hits of the year on the radio... ok!?!... so we went along with our housemate tanya to a house party in richmond. It was heaps of fun... and straight out of an episode of neighbours when the guys all started a game of street cricket.
So I guess that's it for now... next stop Tassie! x
